philosophy

I’ve been a teaching artist for many years, and teaching group lessons are my specialty. I believe that teaching is a very grave responsibility, and I plan my lessons and classroom interactions with the realization that what I say to my students may stay with them for the rest of their lives. I also know that I can get the best work from students if I individualize my teaching to their needs the best that I can. This is a challenge in a group setting, but with firm classroom standards and creative problem solving, I have had a lot of success. I work to create an environment where it is okay to make mistakes, and It’s my hope that students come away from my class loving music, and realizing that they can overcome obstacles with a positive attitude and an openness to new ideas.
